issue 001 🗞️ Tella's Auto-Zoom Release, Phone Bookings on Cal.com, and Default Emojis in Slack

yoooooooo 'sup!

Welcome to the first installment of tech & tactics, our newsletter dedicated to sharing the coolest low-code tools and how you can use them to operate your business better – including new features & releases, tutorials and more.

After years of collecting data, the number one thing I've learned is most founders & freelancers are not afraid to adapt good SaaS into their workflows, they just don't know where to start and/or how to keep up with the changing tech landscape.

🚪 enter this newsletter to save the day!

If you're new to the ecoSYSTM (👀 see what I did there), our core tech stack is here. These will be the tools we mainly cover in tech & tactics, but as the dedicated beta-tester of our group, I will definitely share new SaaS tools I come across if I think they're helpful.

tech & tactics is divided into three sections – in the news (for updates), work better (for tutorials & helpful tips), and lastly, how I built it (for sharing projects, that usually you can steal).

You can expect this newsletter to hit your inbox every Tuesday (we love an alliteration queen)! That's it for now, enjoy!

Cal.com released the ability to book calls by phone!

Now, your audience can use their phone number (and no email) to schedule a time to meet with you. To enable it, go to your event type and add Phone number as one of your booking questions in advanced settings, make it required, then remove the email field.

Tella.tv: Auto-Zoom is here (or at least it's in early beta)!

For those who are regularly recording videos and screen-sharing, this feature will allow auto-generate zooms on clicks, to more easily show the actions taken within your video. Auto-Zoom is available in the editor toolbar to also manually add zooming on any video you've recorded.

Did you know you can customize your default emojis in Slack? I didn't.

You know about my emoji SYSTM, but there are specifically three emojis I use within daily workflows that would make things so much easier if I could have them in the one-click toolbar; the green checkmark (done), the disco ball (to delete item), and the Google Calendar logo (to add to my calendar for task/time blocking).

To achieve this;

  1. Open Slack on desktop,

  2. Click Tools & Settings, then Customize Workspace,

  3. Click each default emoji to change it.

Confirming here, that you can select custom emojis you've uploaded, just type in the name to find it (this pop up does not show your recent used).

In working with a recent client, they requested an “updates feed” on their Notion dashboard to easily share announcements, news, and other general information with their global team.

Here’s how we accomplished it (watch the video below or read the guide here).

That's it for this week!
