Yoooooooooo ‘sup! This week, we're tack-a-lackin' A LOT. From Tella’s new teleprompter feature, changes to Youtube Shorts, product releases we missed from Paperform, NIST’s suggested changes to password requirements, Zapier’s Linked Table release, a strategy for your own tech spend, and a quick tutorial on setting up Papersign.

The NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) has proposed new password best-practice guidelines. The main focus of the proposed changes centers around security & password complexity and includes;

  • require passwords to be a minimum of 8 characters,

  • allow passwords to be up to 64 characters long,

  • accept Unicode characters in passwords,

  • stop requiring a combination of letters and special characters for complexity,

  • stop the use of security questions when choosing passwords and,

  • remove the recommendation to regularly change passwords, as it has been found to harm overall password security.

The full article is available here on their website. Should the changes be approved, you may see an impact to your account logins and/or password manager in time. It is not clear when (SP) 800-63B will be voted on or go into effect.

Youtube announced last week that starting October 15th, Youtube Shorts can be up to 3 minutes long. This comes with additional creator tools for customizing your feed and staying on top of trends. Read more here.

Move over Notion Relations, Zapier just released Linked Records.

With Linked Records, you can create relationships between different Zapier Tables’ data. For example, one table may store customer orders, and another for customer information (like shipping and email addresses). By adding a linked record field, you can display the address of the customer related to the order. Linked Records are a 2-way sync; if one is updated, it will automatically update the other.

Paperform released its first major UI update in more than five years. The change includes a much simpler design with sidebars to easily update the form’s style and question configuration.

The team also updated the Paperform Zapier integration — however its only for Paperform, not for Papersign or Dubble.

Tella releases an in-app teleprompter tool!

Grant (founder @ Tella) is notorious for dropping first looks on Twitter days before Tella rolls out new features, and I’m consistently impressed with what their team is working on to make recording, editing, and releasing videos easier.

The “teleprompter” tool is called Speaker Notes, accessible by clicking the three dots in the Tella recording screen. After typing or pasting your script, you can then select the text size, speed, and if it’s visible in your recording. Not seeing it? Update Tella!

Your tech stack is like a gear system — each tool should “turn together” to move your business forward. There are key areas where technology can make a significant impact, such as improving customer service or enhancing marketing efforts.

A good rule of thumb is to allocate roughly 1% of annual revenue to technology unless otherwise deemed necessary. For larger teams, we recommend a budget of $1000/user, depending on the tools they need access to. Tech Spend should include not only the software subscription itself but hardware, training, and maintenance as well.

Slack has become my primary work hub for communication, project management, saving ideas and more. Here are four automations I created to streamline my space even further, including;

  • Push emails from Gmail to Slack

  • Push Stripe notifications to update finance

  • Create new client threads (project management)

  • Push action items to Google Calendar &/or delete from Slack

That's it for this week!
